The second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test between India and Australia, starting in Delhi on February 17, is expected to be played in front of a packed house at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is hosting its first Test since December 2017. India won the opening Test in Nagpur over three days to take a 1-0 lead in the four-match series.
"Tickets are sold out and we are expecting a full house. The interest is high as a Test match is being played in Delhi after a long time," DDCA joint secretary Rajan Manchanda said on Tuesday. The Arun Jaitley Stadium has a seating capacity of roughly 40,000.
A total of 24,000 tickets were put on sale and 8,000 were distributed among DDCA members, which is the norm. The remaining seats will be used for dignitaries participating in the game. A section of the grandstand is also reserved for families and ensures the safety of the game. The much-anticipated first match of the series was held in Nagpur, but India dominated the contest, winning by an innings and 132 runs in three days. The series opener in Nagpur also attracted a healthy crowd, making it a good advertisement for Test cricket.
After restricting Australia to 177 in their first innings, India responded with 400 all out, led by Rohit Sharma's scintillating century and big fifties from Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja. Australia fared worse in their second innings as they were bundled out for 91 in a single session, giving India a 1-0 lead. Left-arm spinner Jadeja took five wickets in the first innings and Ravichandran Ashwin followed suit in the second.
